Top 2 finishers were making the grass debut. 5-1 winner ALLIGATOR BAYOU raced in mid pack early. Sustained a good closing rally on the far outside to run down WAR VETERAN and then had something left to fend off the fast closing DR. NELSON who was sent off at 67-1. War sat a perfect trip stalking in 2nd. Slipped thru along the rail to take command top of the stretch. Could not keep lead when swept on by as the winner drew clear in the late stages. 8-5 favorite HIGH TONED stalked outside in perfect position from the start. Dead aim in the stretch but came up completely empty.
