(1) SOUTHERN ANTHEM - gathered back after an alert beginning, steadily improved his position along the inside down the backstretch, moved outside around the turn for a stretch bid, continued his sustained rally to bid for the lead in the stretch and then drew clear while running to his exceptional appearance in the paddock. (2) COOL C NOTE - sat a good stalking trip behind the early speed, moved three-wide to bid for the lead nearing the far turn under a hold, briefly resisted the winner in the stretch and was second best. (5) DANSEURS NOBLES - a bit fractious prior to the start, moved to the lead shortly after the break, set a pressured pace until midstretch, and then gave way to finish a distant third.
