Live with the wizard

MY DAY AT CHURCHILL ON FRIDAY
I let the crowd of 103 thousand strong, exit the track before I even attempted to leave. About two hours after the last race, I made the long walk to my car, trying very hard to beat the rain that was ready to erupt. As I got closer to my car, the rain began falling heavily. Based on the weather forecast, it could be pretty bad weather overnight and tommorrow. Since I never packed an umbrella, it was a necessity that I find someplace to buy one, or else I am drenched on Derby day. I plan on being in the paddock reporting to you every race. It was pretty neat to just walk in and be able to be up close and personal to all the horses, and their trainers, several who I know well. I am stationed in the auxillary press box, which is a stones throw from the paddock. I was pleasantly surprised that the track feeds you as well as they do. Great lunch, great dinner and a cheese limo in between. It's amazing how many photographers and reporters there are. I always knew th Derby was huge, but when you are down in Kentucky for a week like I have been, it's almost like it's a national holiday. Tommorrow it will be a zoo, but I am really insulated from the crowds, as I just go from the room to the paddock in ten strides. It's 8:45 pm and I am writing this from a Starbucks, just cooling out from a hard days work. It's great to sit and write all this stuff, hit send, and my writing enters the stratosphere. If you are home Saturday and don't want to battle the crowds at a simulcast or track outlet, power up your computer, put up you wagering site, and get tied on for another great day of racing.
All the best, and get plenty of rest for Saturday. "The Wiz"

FINAL TRACK BIAS
Track was speed favoring in races 1-3. As the track dried out, it became an honest surface. The rail was good all day long. There was no bias on the wet turf course.
RACE ELEVEN OBSERVATIONS
Four horse field.Waccamaw opened up a big lead while fighting his rider when rank. Set too fast a pace until easily being swallowed up by the winner KIDARI who won as much the best. EXOTIC LADY passed the tired pacesetter in mid stretch but was no match for the rest.
PICK 6 CARRYOVER
There is a $137,980 Pick 6 Carryover into Saturday's Kentucky Derby card. Pool will be HUGE!! A very competitive pick 6 sequence, is likely to produce a large payoff.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS (Race Eleven)
All 4 horses looked fine. (# 5) EXOTIC INDY is wearing bend shoes behind which is a plus for traction over the surface
RACHEL ALEXANDRA TOUR DE FORCE
(6) RACHEL ALEXANDRA - A woman against girls, had the look of a winner virtually every step of the way. She allowed (4) GABBY’S GOLDEN GAL to set the early pace, took command when Calvin Borel was ready around the far turn, and then drew clear with absolutely no urging whatsoever, with Borel remaining motionless as she ran away and hid. (3) STONE LEGACY was outrun early towards the inside down the backstretch, improved her position on the turn and then passed exhausted horses for the place. (8) FLYING SPUR - Raced lapped on another runner in the second flight down the backstretch, had no response when asked and simply outlasted the others. (4) GABBY’S GOLDEN GAL was sent immediately to the lead, held an advantage until late on the far turn, and gave way readily once displaced on the front end.
UPDATED WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS
The track was upgraded to FAST for race eleven, but there is still a good amount of moisture in it. It is a little humid, but the sun is out. Rain is expected this evening and Saturday, but you never know. It could hit or miss. My best prediction when you handicap the Derby card, is to look for horses who have shown they can handle a wet surface, and those that have proven they cannot. I would also look for wet turf form. Many grass horses prefer either firm or good to soft grass. Few relish both.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS (Race Eleven)
All horses looked very good in the paddock, with (6) RACHEL ALEXANDRA looking every bit of an odds-on favorite.
RACE TEN TRIP NOTES
(9) ORTHODOX - Impeded at the break by the third-place finisher Turfiste, recovered nicely to go after the pacesetter heading into the first turn. He continued to track that rival until midstretch, eventually putting that him away and holding safe the eventual second-place finisher, Battle Of Hastings. (3) BATTLE OF HASTINGS - raced without incident in the second flight down the backstretch, and launched his bid leaving the far turn. He continued to move closer in the stretch, but was unable to overhaul the winner. (7) TURFISTE - sent to the lead after veering out badly to his to bother Orthodox, and was then allowed to set a controlled pace on the lead. He responded willingly when headed by the winner past midstretch, and then tired slowly late while holding on to the show. (1) STORMALORY - a bit rank while under a firm hold towards the inside early on, began his bid along the inside down the backstretch. He was then forced to ‘take up’ and/or stumbled badly, forcing him to check severely was taken out of the race as a result.

OAKS-DERBY DOUBLE
You can wager now on the Oaks-Derby double. If you feel that Rachel is a standout, then you can "key" her with the horses you like in the Kentucky Derby. Remember, with such an overwhelming favorite, you will get a payoff that will not be much higher than making a straight win bet on your Derby selection
BETTING ACTION ON THE OAKS
As expected Rachel Alexandra opens up at 1-5, which is not unexpected and deservingly so. Flying Spur is the 2nd choice at 6-1. The 6-8 exacta is paying $7.00 with 45 minutes to go.
MAJOR UPSET IN RACE TEN
The worse looking horse in the field and an impossible one to pick, (# 9) ORTHODOX, upset the field at 45-1.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS (Race Ten)
(9) ORTHODOX - dull coat and washy (8) BUNKER HILL - fractious; reared up while being saddled. Rest of the field looked very fit, with beautiful shiny coats.
RACE NINE OBSERVATIONS
(5) BULLSBAY - Like Miss Isella in Race 7, he rode the rail to victory under a heady ride by jockey Jeremy Rose. Within striking distance of the lead behind tepid fractions down the backstretch, Bullsbay have to wait for an opening before making his bid. That opportunity came in the upper stretch, as Rose set him down and he moved quickly to challenge for the lead, subsequently edging away late. (4) COOL COAL MAN stalked the pace just outside the frontrunning (10) Informed, put that rival away shortly after turning for home, and then held on gamely for the place, but was no match for the winner late. (6) STAR GUITAR loomed a dangerous presence around the far turn and into the stretch, but was one-paced late and outlasted the frontrunner for the show. (10) Informed was well-handled on the lead down the backstretch, fought gamely when headed by the eventual second-place finisher, and then continued on willingly late to just miss the show. (1) MACHO AGAIN was outrun behind slow fractions down the backstretch, and failed to make any impact in the stretch drive in a lackluster effort. (8) DR. PLEASURE behind the leaders towards the inside while chasing the pace in the second flight of runners, remained close up until upper stretch, and then had no response when set down for the drive. NOTE: THIS IS THE HORSE THAT I SAID WAS WASHED OUT IN THE PADDOCK!! THIS WAS A HORSE I SELECTED ON TOP ON MY SHEET, BUT ONCE I SAW HIM, HE WAS A THROW OUT. THAT'S THE ADVANTAGE OF LIVEWITHTHEWIZARD-GETTING REAL TIME INFORMATION. IF YOU ARE BETTING $2.00 OR $2000 A RACE, THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE AN EDGE!

SMALL FIELD IN RACE TWELVE
AS A RESULT OF RACE TWELVE BEING TAKEN OFF THE GRASS, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS LATE SCRATCHES, REDUCING THE FIELD TO A MERE FOUR HORSES.
UPDATED BIAS THROUGH NINE RACES
I have changed the bias of the track to an honest one. Closers have won the last three races on the dirt, but speed held ok. Those off the pace winners have rallied up the rail which is very "live" today".
UPDATED TRACK CONDITION
The seal has now been removed. They will be running over natural dirt which is "Good", with plenty of moisture in it.
LATE SCRATCH IN THE KENTUCKY OAKS
Justwhistledixie is a late scratch in the Kentucky Oaks. She was the only minor threat to 1-5 favorite Rachel Alexandra.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS (Race Nine)
(8) DR. PLEASURE - Fractious in the paddock, along with being washed-out. No other negatives and/or positives to report
RACE EIGHT TRIP NOTES
(10) LARAGH - She was able to steal away to a daylight lead and set an uncontested pace on the front end once nobody decided to press her. And, she had more than enough gas left in the tank to repel the late bid of (7) MAGICAL AFFAIR. The second-place finisher was badly outrun early on while racing at the back of the pack. She was out of position virtually the entire way, racing widest into the stretch while attempting to rally. She was left with entirely too much to do, and was clearly second best. (3) BANKER’S CHOICE - Trailed the field until the stretch, and then closed belatedly to pass tired horses for the show. (4) ABBOTT HALL - Broke well, and then settled in mid-pack. She appeared to race without incident, and never made her presence felt at any point in a puzzling effort.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS (Race Eight)
All horses made a good appearance while being saddled. (6) COMPLICITY - Will race with front bandages on for the first time.
UPGRADED TRACK CONDITION AND BIAS
Track has been upgraded to "GOOD" and the grass course to "GOOD". No rain now, but it is expected in the evening. Speed is still good, but not as strong as in the first three races when the track was a sea of slop. The rail is very "live", which is unusual, when the track is like this. Churchill dries out quicker than any other major track in the country.
RACE SEVEN OBSERVATIONS
(3) MISS ISELLA - Stunning upset engineered by Calvin Borel, who kept this horse along the inside while saving every inch of ground in a sharp effort. She saved ground throughout, and continued to ‘scrape the paint’ into the stretch. Despite being pinned down along the rail, she eventually fought her way thru a narrow opening and then outgamed the heavily favored (4) ONE CAROLINE. The 1-2 favorite, (4) ONE CAROLINE, set an uncontested pace down the backstretch. Although she did respond when challenged by both (3) MISS ISELLA and (1) SWIFT TEMPER around the far turn, jockey Edgar Prado made a error by leaving the rail open for the winner, and that tactical mistake cost him dearly. (1) SWIFT TEMPER - moved in earnest to challenge for the lead around the far turn, but was unable to keep pace and then outlasted the others. (8) UNBRIDLED BELLE - a big animal, did not appear to handle the surface, racing wide while off the pace down the backstretch. She was not abused by her rider when hopelessly beaten, in a race that had to be a ‘prep’ off-the-layoff for her. ** Mark her down as a Horse To Watch on a dry track in New York, or at Delaware Park, a racetrack she simply adores.
TRACK STILL SEALED
Track is still sealed. It appeared like they were going to remove it, but it's still on. I would be shocked if the seal is not off for the Oaks.
UPDATED WEATHER AND TRACK CONDITIONS
Main track is now muddy. They took the seal off, so they will be running over conventional dirt. It's warm and very humid, but no rain in sight for now.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS (Race Seven)
(4) ONE CAROLINE - Exceptional appearance in the paddock, head arched, very attentive and on her toes. (5) UNFORGOTTEN - Fronts on. May be a precautionary measure to prevent her heels from ‘running down’ (7) FRENCH KISS - A bit ‘washy’ and her coat lacks luster. (8) UNBRIDLED BELLE - A huge mare, she looked outstanding while being saddled in the paddock. Very shiny coat and was very ‘alert’ as well. (3) MISS ISELLA - looked good as well, but was on the smaller side.
EARLY BETTING ON THE KENTUCKY DERBY
With a mere $36,000 in the win pool, FRIESAN FIRE is the favorite at 4-1. I Want Revenge is 5-1. Both Dunkirk and Pioneerof the Nile are 8-1. The rest are spread out, several at huge prices.

NOTE: Oaks-Derby Double is available for wagering.
RACE SIX TRIP NOTES
(6) CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE -TONS THE BEST!! (THE WIZARD'S PICK OF THE DAY) Away a bit awkwardly, raced lethargically as well early on. Taking a position in the second flight today, he responded readily upon entering the stretch when set down by Gomez. He finished determinedly while shadowed by (7) CANNONBALL, outgaming that rival to the finish in a very sharp effort. (7) CANNONBALL - coming from off-the-pace as well, rallied in tandem with the winner around the turn. He loomed dangerously in deep stretch, and as is his habit, failed to punch it in when it counted most. (2) SMART ENOUGH - away alertly, dropped back shortly thereafter. He moved to challenge for the lead leaving the far turn, skimmed the hedge into the stretch to gain a daylight lead, but showed a bit of rustiness in deep stretch to relinquish the lead and finished. (9) JAZZ NATION - shook clear shortly after the start to gain the lead, was displaced on the front end in upper stretch and then had no late response.
WIZARD PRODUCTS AND WINNING SELECTIONS ON THE SHEET TODAY
THE WIZARD'S PICK OF THE DAY SCORES!! WINNING AT OVER 50 % SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. HERE IS MY WRITE UP WHICH WAS POSTED ON BRISNET.COM. $5.60 TO WIN AND AN $19 EXACTA GIVEN OUT 5 TIMES!!!

(# 6) CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE Has been a model of consistency for trainer William Bret Calhoun, one of the nation's most underrated horseman. This son of Breeders' Cup Mile Champion War Chant has been a terror sprinting on the grass, capturing half of his 12 lifetime turf starts and only missing the board one time. That uncharacteristic performance was two starts back at Tampa Bay Downs, the only time he raced over that course. Sprinting 5 furlongs against some of the quickest runners in the country, he was sandwiched at the start and was bounced around like a pinball. He quickly recovered and rushed up to duel between horses through wicked early fractions (20.4, 43.3). He then took a bad step around the far turn as new rider Jeremy Rose snatched him up, costing him critical position. Gelding was running on gamely in the lane but Rose eventually wrapped up on him when victory was out of reach. 5yo returned next out at Keeneland and rebounded in a big way off that sneaky troubled trip. He stalked the early pace of Mr. Nightlinger, who is arguably the best turf sprinter in the country. He collared that rival turning for home, put him away, and then had to try to hold off the challenge of two fresh closers. Narrowly missed at the wire in a great effort. Top rider Garrett Gomez got to know him in that race and is back aboard today. These types of races never have soft pace scenarios but there is less speed than in his prior two starts, so I expect him to be difficult to catch turning for home. Two for two here at Churchill, he should handle any type of conditions and is a bet best for either surface.

These are my winning selections from the other five races on my Selection sheet today. (Race one) $104.00 box trifecta and $49.00 exacta, boxing my three selections. (Race Three) $313.00 trifecta and $56.00 exacta, also boxing my three picks. I camed up empty

PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS (Race Six)
All horses look good. (# 6) CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE, the 2-1 favorite, looks outstanding!
RACE FIVE TRIP NOTES
(9) WARRIOR'S REWARD - Raced well behind torrid fractions early along the inside, cut the corner turning for home, vied for command with Munnings in midstretch and outgamed that rival. (1)MUNNINGS - outrun early on towards the inside, made a strong bid for the lead around the far turn while to enage (4) STREET CAR for the lead, gained command in upper stretch, only to be outfinished late by the winner. (7) REYNALDOTHEWIZARD closed belatedly from far back while outside horses to outlast the others for the show. (4) STREET CAR disputed a hot pace while racing two-wide, put away his pace nemisis leaving the turn, but weakened under pressure in the stretch. (11) CUSTOM FOR CARLOS -Suffered from a clumsy start, breaking well but then throwing his head in the air shortly thereafter. He raced wide vs. fast fractions while off the lead, and appeared to dislike the track and the wet surface in a disappointing effort.
UPDATED BIAS THROUGH FIVE RACES
Even though off the pace horses have won the last two races, it is more a result of fast paces and the speed falling apart. I still feel you want to be speed on this sealed sloppy surface. There is no path bias, as horses have done well racing down along the rail. The bias can change at any time, so I will update it each race.
THE PICK 6
The Pick 6 begins in the sixth race. Ends in race eleven.
HORSE GIVEN FAST WARM UP
(# 1) MUNNINGS is being hard ridden in the warm up, to get him on the engine and sharp out of the gate. Wide open board. Favorite is 3-1.
PADDOCK NOTES RACE FIVE
All horses made a positive physical appearance. Several are on their toes and appear ready to run.
BETTING ACTION RACE FIVE
Wide open board once again with 19 minutes to go. (# 9) WARRIOR'S REWARD is the favorite at 3-1. Rest of the money is spread out.
BIAS INFORMATION THROUGH FOUR RACES
It's clearly a speed favoring track so far, despite closers running 1-2-3 in race four. Race collapsed because of a fast contested pace which is not indicative of a changing track bias.
RACE FOUR OBSERVATIONS
Contested fast pace set it up for the Todd Pletcher 1st timer Senor Fuego, with his main man John Velazquez aboard. Upset the field at 13-1. Race fell apart late, with DISCREET STREET and ITAIN'TOVER cluncking up for second and third.
PADDOCK NOTES RACE FOUR
(# 5) ITAIN'OVER is very fractious. (# 11) PERSIAN, 1st time blinkers, on his toes. (# 8) COUGHSGONE adding fronts back on.
LATE BLINKER CHANGE RACE FOUR
(# 11) PERSIAN add blinkers for the first time.
BETTING ACTION RACE FOUR
Wide open board in race # 4. Two horses favored at 5-1. Betting spread out on the rest.
TRACK BIAS THROUGH RACES 1-3
CLEARLY A SPEED FAVORING TRACK THROUGH THE FIRST THREE RACES.
RACE THREE OBSERVATIONS
ANOTHER FRONT RUNNING VICTORY.

Great finish, as ON A ROLL held very game, setting a pressured pace from both sides throughout. IVORY EMPRESS was TONS THE BEST! Off slowly, Taken off the heels of a rival at the top of the stretch. Recovered to sustain a grinding rally thru the lane while racing very wide throughout. Watch back next time out. CHAPEL AFFAIR had every chance to win with dead aim along the inside throughout. Just not good enough.
BETTING ACTION RACE THREE
Wide open board with # 7 and # 8 co-favorites at 3-1.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS (Race three)
Only horse who did not look very good is (# 6) BROADWAY BERTIE. Coat was dull and a bit nervous. (# 4) CHAPEL AFFAIR and (# 8) JUNE DAY looked best. Rest were ok.
*** RACE THREE ***
Another wide open board. Very little wet track form for most of these fillies. (# 7) IVORY EMPRESS, the 2-1 favorite with 16 minutes to go. Can she handle the slop today? It's a guess. She does have speed, especially on the stretch out, but also must travel much further today going from 6 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles.
RACE TWO OBSERVATIONS
Winner (# 6) MULTIPASS, wired field, for second straight race, where speed held very well. The rest were spinning their wheels over the slop.
BETTING ACTION RACE TWO
The board is spread out in the betting. Not surprising, as this race is very competitive.
*** PADDOCK INFORMATION (RACE TWO) ***
Every horse looked good. No horse was adding front bandages.
RACE ONE OBSERVATIONS
FIRST AND SECOND FINISHERS WERE TWO-ONE THE ENITRE TRIP. THOSE BEHIND WERE SPINNING THEIR WHEELS OVER THE SEALED SLOPPY SURFACE.
ZENYATA
ECLIPSE AWARD WINNING THREE YEAR OLD FILLY ZENYATA, WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN ODDS ON, IS A LATE SCRATCH OUT OF RACE SEVEN.
BETTING ACTION RACE ONE
(# 6) SATIN THUNDER certainly can win, but with 14 minutes to go, I feel he is overbet at 6-5. if you like her, I would suggest "keying" her in exotics, such as and exacta, double or pick 3's.
UPDATED TACK CONDITIONS, AND OTHER IMPORTANT LATE CHANGES
MAIN TRACK IS LISTED AS SLOPPY. GRASS COURSE IS YIELDING. RACE TWELVE, SCHEDULED FOR THE TURF, IS SWITCHED TO THE SLOPPY MAIN TRACK.

RACE TWO BEGINS THE EARLY PICK FOUR. THERE IS A 50 CENT MINIMUM, WHICH MAKES THIS PLAY VERY AFFORDABLE. THIS ALLOWS YOU TO SPREAD IN ONE OR TWO LEGS OF THE PICK 4 SEQUENCE.
TRACK CONDITIONS FRIDAY AS OF 8 AM (EST)
The Wizard has arrived at Churchill Friday morning. I went to the rail on the grandstand side to see what the track conditions are. I watched some workouts to see what the horses hooves are kicking up. The track is muddy and deep. It is overcast right now, with no rain. Track and weather conditions could all change during the day. Tune in for all my real time information.

NOTE: FIRST POST FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY IS 10:30 AM (EST)
