RACE ELEVEN TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
5-2 favorite CANNON'S CALL earned a well deserved victory. Raced well off the pace. Forced to check midway on the far turn. Sanchez waited patiently to make his move and that was at the top of the stretch when he swung Cannon out, and he steadily gained ground to run down MARVAN who also ran well. Forced to race wide throughout from a tough outside post. Continued wide throughout taking narrow lead in deep stretch, then was just outfinished in his grass debut.

RACE ELEVEN PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
ALL11 horses look good. Wide open board with 7 minutes to go. Favorite is # 9 at 3-1, the rest are well spread out. Hard to say what # 2 LAUGH will do today as he would not load into the gate in his debut. He has a strong grass pedigree and if able to break more alert, he will improve.
RACE ELEVEN BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Once again another wide open race with two co-favorites at 4-1. The rest well spread out.
RACE TEN TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
5-1 winner RUMOR HAS IT, but them all too sleep, opening at least a 25 length lead passing the stands for the first time in this 1 3/4 mile marathon. Given a breather secont time around when he hit the far turn, almost appearing is if he was tiring. Able to spurt clear again at the top of the stretch, then had plenty left to hold off the 4-5 favorite GANGBUSTER, who had every chance to run down the front runner, but was staggering late, only to pass horses who wanted no part of this distance.
LATE VET SCRATCH
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Late vet scratch in race 11, # 3 IM NO GENTLEMAN.
RACE TEN PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
All 6 horses look good. # 6 LEMONADE KID adds front bandages for the first time which is a negative.
RACE TEN BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
# 2 GANGBUSTER, as expected, opened up the odds on favorite. Clearly the one to beat is is overbet at that price. The rest of the field is well spread out.
RACE NINE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Another upset with 7-1 GREELY'S ANGEL rallies from off the pace with a perfectly timed ride to just get up over MANEKE, who moved before that rival but was unable to hold on late. Longshot ROCHESTER CAT sat a perfect rail trip to get 3rd in a good effort off the layoff.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
All 12 horses look good in a very wide open race. # 8 MANEKE, is the favorite at 7-2 odds with 9 minutes to go. The rest are well spread out in the betting.
ZENYATA vs RACHEL ALEXANDRA (As written in today's Daily Racing Form)
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Moss wants Zenyatta to face Rachel By David Grening
Zenyatta's owner Jerry Moss, shown with his wife, Ann, said Saturday that Zenyatta may race outside California this year and that he would like her to face Rachel Alexandra.
ELMONT, N.Y. - Don't rule out a Zenyatta-Rachel Alexandra showdown this year just yet.
Saturday morning, in an interview on the "Down the Stretch" radio show on Sirius XM radio, Jerry Moss, the owner of Zenyatta, said "there's a good chance" Zenyatta would leave Southern California to race this year and that he "would very much like" to see his mare face Preakness winner Rachel Alexandra.
Moss said no decision on Zenyatta's schedule would be made until after trainer John Shirreffs assesses how the mare comes out of Saturday's Grade 1 Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park, in which she was seeking her 11th victory in as many career starts.
"Obviously, we take it race to race, obviously we hope we do well today, we hope we come out of the race fine," Moss said. "[Shirreffs] is going to need a week to see how she's come through this . . . then maybe we'll say something about where our next start will be, and it could be out of the state for certain."
Rachel Alexandra was seeking her seventh straight victory in Saturday's Grade 1 Mother Goose at Belmont Park.
Last Wednesday, in a conference call to preview the Mother Goose, Jess Jackson, the owner of Rachel Alexandra, said his filly would not race in this November's Breeders' Cup because it was being run over Santa Anita's synthetic surface. With the belief that Zenyatta would not leave Southern California to race this year, that appeared to put an end to any possible meeting this year.
But Moss's comments opened the door.
"If the two horses are ready and at the top of their form, I would very much like to see a race between the two of them," Moss said.
There are a number of potential places for them to meet. There is the $1 million Delaware Handicap at Delaware Park on July 19; the $300,000 Go for Wand at 1 1/8 miles at Saratoga on Aug. 2; or the $400,000 Personal Ensign at 1 1/4 miles at Saratoga on Aug. 29.
Moss added that he shares Jackson's negative view of synthetic racetracks. "It's just that I'm a Californian, I moved out here from New York a long, long time ago," he said. "I like the people. This is where I live. This is where I race mostly."
Moss suggested that one reason he would consider shipping Zenyatta out of the state is to help make her Horse of the Year. She finished second to Curlin for that award last year.
"We want to win that this year if it's possible," Moss said. "The horses have got to perform, every step has got to be the right one. We're hoping and praying she gets through today well . . . we hope both horses do well throughout the year and we can meet somewhere."

RACE NINE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
As wide open a race as you will find. Plenty of these this afternoon. Five horses all at 5-1. Every other horse are higher and spread out in the betting.
RACE EIGHT BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
11-1 winner SIMPLY THE FOX rallied up the rail from well off the pace to run down the loose on the lead THAT'S A FACT who had no excuse not holding on. KIMBO passed tired horses late to be a no threat 3rd. Favorite TIGER'S SONG showed nothing off the layoff.
RACE EIGHT BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
# 5 TIGER'S SONG, is the clear cut favorite in all pools, opening up at 8-5 odds. The rest are well spread out in the betting.
RACE SEVEN TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Top 3 finishers all closed from off the pace when the speed faltered off a quick pace. 8-1 winner GARBOSO sat in mid pack behind a highly contested pace. Swung wide into the stretch and drew clear with complete authority. Both B L's PAPA COO COO and SPRUCE LAKE closed late for 2nd and 3rd on the far outside. Pacesetter SMACK DADDY set fast fractions under pressure, held to deep stretch, then tired. Will be dangerous next out if able to set slower fractions.
RACE SEVEN PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS AND BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
All horses look ok. Betting is as wide open as you will see. There are 2 co-favorites at 9-2. The rest are well spread out from these two.
MORE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
# 2 REMEMBER ROBIN opened up at 7-1 but is a solid favorite in the Pick 3's. Certainly his odds will drop.
RACE SEVEN BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Another of a long line of wide open races. Favorite is # 11 SPRUCE LAKE at 3-1. The rest of the field is well spread out in odds after him.
RACE SIX TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Superb ride by Eddie Razo Jr. aboard 7-1 winner YES IM WOMAN. Well off the pace until tipping out at the top of stretch. Strong rally to draw clear in the final 1/16th. A.J.'s LOVE stalked outside and behind a 3 horse speed duel. Moved to the lead in mid stretch, but could not hold off the winner. HEAVENS TOUR sat a perfect inside trip. Did steady a couple of times in the stretch, but would have been only a bit closer if free of that minor trouble.
RACE SIX PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS AND BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
All 10 horses look ok. Still very wide open with two 7-2 co-favorites and then well spread out after those two.
PICK 6
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
The Pick 6 starts in this race (6). There is a Pick 6 carryover of just under $20,000.
RACE SIX BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Very wide open race with two co-favorites at 4-1.
*** MID DAY BIAS UPDATE ***
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Speed and stalkers are doing best, but you can close from off the pace if you get the right set up. Both the rail and outside posts are playing equally well.
RACE FIVE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Perfectly timed rally from well off the pace by La Sala aboard 10-1 winner WESTERN SWEEP. Ran down even money entry TWIN BUTTES in deep stretch despite not changing leads. Did not pull up all that well. Twin was caught up in a hard duel. fought off the other speed, and then was all out, but could not hold on late.
RACE FIVE PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
All horses look good. # 3 continues to take money, now at 3-1, off her 15-1 morning line odds.
RACE FIVE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
I had to check my racing form to see if I was looking at the wrong date, as # 3 LOVELY LOVE, who is 15-1 on the morning line, opened up at odds on at 1-2. Based on her recent form, someone out there loves her. There is reason to consider her in this field, but there is no doubt she will drift up in price. Off this betting action, she is a must use for me.
RACE FOUR TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
5-1 front running winner JUST KICK' EM, set a moderate pace from the start. Challenged in ernest by MOLANDER who was down inside him along the fence. That one took a narrow lead in deep stretch, but the winner battled back gamely to score a hard fought victory. Sneaky money horse GREEN TURTLE CAY, chased for a 1/4 mile then backed up badly. Rest of the field showed little.
RACE FOUR PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS AND MORE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
All horses look ok. # 4, who continues to take money at 7-2, off his 12-1 morning line, adds front bandages for the first time off the trainer change. I feel he is grossly overbet and it's not a positive that he is adding the fronts. Let the sneaky money beat me.
RACE FOUR BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Wide open board in a very difficult and competitive race. The favoerite is # 4 GREEN TURTLE CAY, who is 12-1 on the morning line, but opened up as the 5-2 favorite. That's "sneaky" early money.
RACE THREE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Perfect ride and trip for 9-5 favorite winner BIRDIE TOLD ME, who stalked on the rail from the start. Slipped through to take the lead at the 1/8th pole and drew clear from # 7 RAVE AND RICHES, who sat mid pack on the outside. No match for winner, but was a clear 2nd. Both were much the best of the rest.
MORE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Favorite # 3 looks very good warming up on the track. 3-1 with 3 minutes to go which is not a bad price.
RACE THREE PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
All horses look ok. # 8 MARGRET S adds front bandages for the 1st time which is a negative. Corrected weight on # 5 MZ FUZZ who is toting 124 LBS, not 119 as stated in the PP'S.
RACE THREE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Wide open board with the favorite at 3-1. No doubt that this is a very competitive race.
RACE TWO TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Jockey Tim Thornton, sweeps the Daily Double. LIL CORA TEE upends the 4-5 favorite in deep stretch to score at 7-1. Rallied wide from well off the pace to get the money. Lugged in a bit at the 1/8th pole, slightly bothering the tired FROSTY MELODY, and then in deep stretch, forcing DOTTIE BOOTH to steady slightly while in tight along the rail. Dottie ran well, setting a pressured pace along rail. Fought off a stalker in mid stretch, and battled gamely to the wire.
RACE TWO PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS AND MORE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Early Pick 4 expected pool is $40,000 +.
All 6 horses look good. # 1 is the favorite at 2-1 and deservingly so.
All 6 horses look good. # 1 is the favorite at 2-1 and deservingly so.
RACE TWO
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Race two begins the early Pick 4. There is a Pick 4 carryover over $11,000 +. Well worth jumping in with the added money. # 1 DOTTIE BOOTH is a big favorite in all pools. # 4 FROSTY MELODY, 10-1 on the morning line, is taking "sneaky" money in the win pool. With 16 minutes to go she is 5-2, but not as heavily bet in the other pools.
RACE ONE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
6-1 winner DOROTHY Y, showed imnproved speed taking the lead from the start. Held off well meant first timer SHAKE N QUAKE under a stiff drive late. Shake broke well. Chased on rail. Forced to take up midway on the turn. Recovered to split horses at the top of the stretch, then had every chance to run down the winner late, but was simply outfinished. 9-5 favorite CUPID'S BEST, was way overbet at 9-5 and showed nothing. LISA'S TIGER was bumped hard at the start, finding herself well off the pace. Closed mildly up th rail for a well beaten third.
MORE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
1st timer # 5, also took a hit with 2 minutes to. Both 1sters are clearly well meant.
MORE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
#1st timer # 1 just took a hit into the teeth of # 2 who I feel is overbet at 9-5 odds.
PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS AND MORE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
All horses look ok, but # 8 was a bit fractious in the warm up and is a very small filly. First timers # 1 SHAKE N QUAKE and # 5 LISA'S TIGER are both taking money. # 2 appears overbet at 2-1. Her debut was only fair.
RACE ONE BETTING ACTION
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
Of the 5 first time starters, only # 5 LISA'S TIGER, is taking money at 2-1, with 22 minutes to go.
RACE ONE
by The Wizard on Saturday, June 27, 2009
4 1/2 furlong race for filly 2 year olds. Of the 7 horses entered, 5 are 1st time starters. Only horses to have started are # 2 CUPID'S BEST and # 6 DORTHY Y. Both did not showing anything special. We will watch the betting closely on this race.
