There was a moderate inside speed bias on the polytrack.
Horse to Watch
SWEET DAHLIA (6th) Orientate filly has developed nicely for Asmussen. She was stretching back out following a troubled trip at 7F. She tracked the leaders then pulled away with authority in deep stretch. Look for a class drop as she is now out of claiming conditions.

RACE NINE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 01, 2009
SLEETCALLING emerged from the pack with the lead with GOING HELFAST in closest pursuit and WACCAMAW in 3rd. WACCAMAW came out to challenge at the top of the lane and gradually ran SLEETCALLING down. GRANNY'S TALE closed late to edge SLEETCALLING for 2nd. WACCAMAW sawed off GOING HELFAST when she came over on her in the drive, but the stewards allowed the result to stand.

KINETIC MOTION set the pace while being pressured by LIVE FROM APOLLO. 'APOLLO finally put a head in front inside the final furlong then was able to hold off the closers. There was a blanket finish for 2nd with LIFE'S LESSONS edging BRIXTON'S CONTE. KINETIC MOTION held on with determination

RACE 9
MY CONTENDERS ARE IN POST POSITION ORDER:
4 GOING HELFAST
Filly comes off 3 straight 2nd place finishes, the most recent being her first turfer. She has finished 2nd or 3rd in 7 of her 10 starts. You can’t say she lacks a winning spirit as she was DQ’d from a daylight win 5 starts back.
6 DUVESSA
3yo filly showed good late run breaking from post 11 while making her debut under today's same conditions for trainer Tom Proctor. Moves forward for the win this time, drawing a better post with Alvarado back up.
7 CERVEZA
3yo filly came out running in her main track debut, holding on well to finish a close 4th going 6 1/2 furlongs. She can prove a contender today moving to MSW company on the turf while receiving first time Lasix. Sterling stays.
8 WACCAMAW
War Chant filly has hit the board in 7 of 8 trips to post including all three tries on the turf while facing quality MSW company. She must be considered a major contender in her local debut today with Jara up.

All 6 horses look very good, especially # 1 BOOTS ARE WALKING
RACE SEVEN TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 01, 2009
Longshot RUMOR HAS IT opened a 6-length lead on the first turn then increased it to near double-digits after a half. It looked like MAJOR RHYTHM, who tracked the leader in 2nd, would go by when he made a strong challenge in mid-stretch. RUMOR HAS IT seemed to want it more as he maintained a head advantage through the closing strides. PUBLIC SPEAKER was going best of all at the wire and finished a close 3rd. DEMARCATION trailed the field early, entered the stretch 6-wide amd never threatened.

RACE 8
MY CONTENDERS ARE IN POST POSITION ORDER:
1 BOOTS ARE WALKING
Consistent 8yo returns to the main track today dropping back down to the same conditions where he finished a game third in his previous start. Veteran is more than capable of another share today with Perez.
2 ARABIAN CHEETAH
Posted a 5 1/4 length win at Churchill last out in his first try off the claim by trainer Tom Amoss. He is just as capable on a synthetic surface and the turn back to 5 1/2 furlongs suits him well today. He can repeat while moving up in class with Graham up.
6 BRIXTON’S CONTE
Gray 6yo finished 4th behind two of these despite being stopped cold when full of run in mid-stretch. The Illinois-bred is a contender once again and could be overlooked at the windows.
LIFE’S LESSONS
Has hit the board in 5 of last 8 since moving to the barn of Frank Kirby which includes a 2 1/4 length win here two starts back followed by a good 2nd for this tag last out. Merits respect with Karlsson back up.

RACE SIX TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 01, 2009
PRAIRIE ACADEMY set the pace from the rail, opened a daylight lead after a half, resisted when clallenged in deep stretch and held on well for the place. SWEET DAHLIA stalked in 4th along the rail, came out for the drive and won as if much the best. DIFFERENTIATE rated in 2nd, was asked for run on the stretch turn but failed to respond. She was passed for 3rd by the fast closing PURE HEAVEN. DIFFERENTIATE goes to Amoss.

RACE 7
MY CONTENDERS ARE IN POST POSITION ORDER ARE:
1 PUBLIC SPEAKER
4yo Distorted Humor colt won 4 of 5 on synthetic surfaces at Turfway and Keeneland before being claimed for $50,000 by trainer Rebecca Maker in the spring. He posted a neck loss in the Tin Man stakes moving to the turf here first out for Maker and followed with a game win against a strong allowance field. Set pace in the G3 Arlington Handicap last out before tiring late but was still only beaten 3 lengths. The switch back to Alvarado today can get the job done, breaking from the rail while offering a fair price.
2 STREAM CAT
Multiple graded stakes winner won the Arlington Handicap here last summer and took another G3 race this spring at Santa Anita. Failed to fire in this year’s Arlington Handicap last out but can certainly rebound today.
3 DEMARCATION
5yo has been a consistent performer on the turf for Paul McGee while facing quality company. Won the G3 River City at Churchill last fall and is coming off two good efforts there in his last two starts. He returns to Arlington today where he has hit the board in all four tries.

A very strong tail wind down the backstretch today which usually helps early speed. All 7 horses look good.
RACE FIVE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 01, 2009
There was not much speed in this one-mile turfer. AVA MAE set a modest pace closely followed by SOUPER MISS. Favorite LINK TO MY HEART stalked from the outside in 3rd with NAPOLEON'S RETREAT alongside on the rail. On the stretch turn LINK TO MY HEART rolled to to the leaders with a 3-wide move and looked like she would go on by. SOUPER MISS hung right with her with NAPOLEON'S RETREAT, who appeared to be blocked on the rail, found an opening and drove to the lead in deep stretch. A gutsy effort by the winner and a fine ride from Chris Emigh. LINK TO MY HEART hung in the drive and finished 3rd.

RACE 6
MY CONTENDERS ARE IN POST POSITION ORDER:
1 PRAIRIE ACADEMY
Honest 4yo filly has yet to finish worse than second this year, all here at Arlington. She scored a game win last out on the turf but is just as capable on the main track. Repeats on slight drop with Riggs back up.
2 DIFFERENTIATE
3yo has hit the board in 6 of 9 trips to the post for Donnie Von Hemel while finishing good seconds in both tries over this surface. She is a major contender today dropping in for a tag for the first time in her career.
3 SWEET DAHLIA
3yo filly was compromised by a troubled trip here last out when moving up in class while turning back in distance. She merits much respect off her previous two which were back to back wins including a score over the top pick here.
4 STEP SISTER
Overcame a rough trip to finish a close-up 4th against allowance fillies last time. She holds her sharp form and this drop back into a claimer makes her dangerous. Her only recent race for a claiming tag was her big win two starts back.

CHOP SLEWY broke fast and opened a 3-length lead on the first turn. He was rated nicely on the lead by Brandon Meier, drew clear again on the stretch turn and held on for the upset win. 10yo SCOOTER ROACH moved onto 2nd on the far turn and could not get to the winner although he gave it all he had, just like he always does. JAZZY GALLOP won the photo for show.

RACE 5
MY CONTENDERS ARE (In post position order, not selections)
2 NAPOLEON’S TREAT
3yo filly is not particularly well bred for turf but she has two solid 2nd place finishes against this kind on poly. Dangerous contender if she should take to the green.
3 LINK TO MY HEART
4yo filly showed plenty of ability on the turf as a 2yo facing quality company for trainer Chris Block and returned from a 19 month layoff with a strong effort to finish second over this course last out. Can score with a much needed race under her.
4 SOUPER MISS
Consistent filly has hit the board in 5 of 6 with 2 wins picking up that second score stretching out on the turf here last out. She can certainly prove a factor today turning back to a mile.
5 AVA MAE
3yo from the barn of trainer Michele Boyce has hit the board in her last three over the lawn here including an allowance win two back. She must be considered a contender once again with Graham in the irons.

RACE THREE TRIP NOTES

WAKEUPBRANDON emerged with a short lead over EXECUTIVE COACH with heavy favorite and new gelding TAZZ stalking in 3rd. TAZZ closed relentlessly and was able to edge clear late from the outside. The drive was roughly run with WAKEUPBRANDON all over the track. The stewards dismissed foul claims by both the rider and trainer of EXECUTIVE COACH who took the worst of it. No harm, no foul.

RACE 4
MY CONTENDERS ARE IN POST POSITION ORDER (Not selections)
2 SCOOTER ROACH
10yo veteran was claimed last out by Larry Rivelli who does a good job with haltered horses. This guy has more than enough left in the tank to score for his new barn with his claiming price cut in half and Campbell up.
6 BLITHE LAD
Popular at the claim box, he has changed hands in 3 of his last 4 starts and now goes to Chris Dorris. He won big for Canani two starts back then tanked last out for Houghton. Likely to be over bet, but one of his good efforts would win it.
7 SEFA SPLIT
Scored a win here last out at today's distance in his first try since moving to the barn of Wayne Catalano. Barn excels with repeaters and, although he faces better here, still merits respect with LaSala back up.
8 OPPORTUNISTIC
6yo posted a win and a game second going two turns for this same tag before being compromised by a troubled start last out. He is more than capable of rebounding today reuniting with Riggs.

1 SORREL OF THE SEA
Finished 4th in a stakes then was heavily bet in his two recent losses at this level. Although he finished 5th last time the race was fast and was actually this colt’s best effort. Presser could get a good pace setup in this small field.
3 WAKEUPBRANDON
Modestly bred gelding has been in the money 3 of 6 starts but has actually run even better than that. Has other speed in this contest which may present a problem for jockey Inez Karlsson.
5 EXECUTIVE COACH
3yo gelding has had trouble getting himself out of this allowance condition which doesn't speak well of him. However, he has been getting close and another such performance makes him a must in the exacta picture.
6 TAZZ
3yo colt was hitting on all cylinders before being forced to move to the sidelines back in May. Now comes back against allowance company for the first time. He has been sizzling during his morning drills for trainer Christine Janks, who excels under these circumstances.

RACE 2
MY CONTENDERS ARE:
1 ANNIE'S PLACE
Typically you don't like seeing debut runners breaking from the rail post position. However, in this case trainer Michael Reavis prepares his first time starters exceptionally well and should have no trouble from this inside slot.
3 SEE THE FUTURE
Lightly raced 4yo filly has been limited due to physical problems that have unfortunately kept her on the sidelines. Now moves into the barn of high powered trainer Wayne Catalano who hits an awesome 40% with new acquisitions. In this case he's dropping her down sharply in class down from $40,000 to $10,000 which is another high % winning pattern from this operation. Horse flashed a good turn of early speed last out before fading badly while going 1 1/16th miles. Today she will be cutting back to a sprint which should prove to be a positive development.
4 HI SUGAR
Trainer Hugh Robertson is winning at a 25% rate and that's due mostly to his ability to run his horses where they have the best chance to win. Today he proves just that by dropping this Jump Start filly down in class to a winnable spot.

Heavily favored RAVIN MANIAC went to the front from the rail but was quickly engaged by PERFECT CUP OF TEA. 'MANIAC disposed of that rival after a half mile to hold a clear lead on the turn. GO GO GRANDE, who had been stalking in 3rd, made a rail move on the stretch turn and moved alongside the winner at the top of the lane. Though headed briefly, RAVIN MANIAC rallied in deep stretch for a game win. MON JOLENE was a no-threat 3rd and the others were never a factor.
RACE TWO BETTING ACTION

MY CONTENDERS IN POST POSITION ORDER:
1 RAVIN MANIAC
Last out while going against much tougher starters allowance company this horse turned in a huge effort to gain the show. That performance indicates a runner who's hitting on all cylinders and slight drop in class should be all that's required to get the job done today.
3 GO GO GRANDE
3yo filly was claimed last out while coming off the shelf from a brief and much needed vacation. Trainer Joel Berndt does a capable job with his first off the claim runners and in this case will be adding blinkers which is a positive move.
5 MYSTICAL PRINCESS
Hit the board in her last three, all against this kind, and comes off the best race of her career. She finished a clear 3rd in a fast race and should be in the hunt again.
6 PERFECT CUP OF TEA
3yo Yes It's True filly trounced her field at Delaware Park in June although that was against lesser company. This horse still has the potential to move up substantially while going for new management in trainer Frank Springer.

INTRODUCTION AND THE WIZARD PRODUCT LINE
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 01, 2009
LIVEWITHTHEWIZARD AT ARLINGTON (Aug 1)
Livewiththewizard is a new concept, which provides the player “real time information”. In order to win in this game, it is imperative that you are kept abreast of anything that can help you win money. What I will provide you today are my contenders for each race placed in POST POSITION ORDER. These are not MY SELECTIONS! Weather reports, changing track conditions, betting action, bias information, paddock observations, equipment changes, late scratches, trip notes and horses to watch back the next time they run. Anything else I see, you will know. This is the purpose of “livewiththewizard”. It is not a selection sheet. My products are sold through brisnet.com at very affordable prices. Below is a listing of my product line. Not only do I give you selections, but I give you detailed information on why I like that particular horse for every product.
