PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS RACE NINE
ALL 12 horses look good.
FINAL TRACK BIAS AND HORSES TO WATCH
FINAL TRACK BIAS

The polytrack continued to play fair while the turf course favored the rally-wide closers.

Horse to Watch

5th race EMPTY HANDED

Showed his ability on July 18, his first on the grass, when he flew the final 5/16 in just under :28 en route to a 4th place finish. He took another step forward today with a powerful win over an entry-level allowance field. He was far back early then came widest for the drive and ran right past his rivals. His final quarter :23 flat. This son of Lion Heart is a true turf course specialist and will be hard to deny at the next condition.

RACE EIGHT TRIP NOTES
LITTLE NANCY pressed the early leader, got the lead on the stretch turn and pulled away to a decisive win. McCLEES CREEK and SUPER LADYBUG closed from out of the pack for 2nd and 3rd when the other pacesetters dropped out.
RACE NINE BETTING ACTION
As wide open a board as you will see at the open. Favorite is # 12 at 4-1 and then odds range to 20-1.
*** RACE NINE ANALYSIS ***
ANALYSIS OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

2 TERRELL CHENEY
3yo Mineshaft filly was claimed three starts back at Churchill by trainer Steve Asmussen and has turned in two solid efforts moving up to today's tag. The fact he doesn't drop this filly below the taking price suggests that he feels quite confident moving her to the turf. Graham up.

10 ROCK JASMINE
Filly has hit the board in 3 of 5 trips on the turf for trainer Keith Desormeaux, all coming while facing MSW company. Must be considered a contender today dropping in for a tag.

11 RUN WITH THE BAND
Gulch filly turned in her best effort in her only other try on the turf here two starts back for higher tag. She is more than capable of earning a share today dropping with the blinkers removed.

12 PAISLEY
4yo filly showed much improvement returning to the turf here last out in her third start since moving to the barn of Mike Stidham following her debut. Major player today despite the post draw.

RACE EIGHT PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
All 8 horses look good.
RACE SEVEN TRIP NOTES
MAGNETIC MISS moved to the lead after a quarter-mile, pulled clear briefly then held on very tenaciously to lose a head-bobbing finish. TALETOBETOLD stalked the leaders in 4th, moved up on the stretch turn, came outside MAGNETIC MISS and was up in the final strides. DEE'S ROSE finished well to be a close 3rd.
RACE EIGHT BETTING ACTION
# 2 LITTLE NANCY, 6-1 on the morning line, opened up at 2-1 off the sharp drop. I would respect this betting action, as the trainer John Good does great work with a limited number of starters.
*** RACE EIGHT ANALYSIS ***
ANALYSIS OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

2 LITTLE NANCY
Beat $50,000 maiden claimers at Fair Grounds then was overmatched in each of her three subsequent starts. This big class drop and the switch from turf back to poly make her a contender.

6 DROPLET
Raced on the turf in her first 3 starts of the meet then broke her maiden when switched to poly last out. She stalked a fast pace, opened a clear lead in the lane then held on for the win. Would not need much better to handle these soft winners.

8 McCLEE’S CREEK
Didn't prove a factor on the turf at Ellis last out but returns to the main strip here at Arlington today where she just finished a good second at this same class condition in previous start.

9 BUDDHAFUL LADY
3yo filly followed her 4 1/2 length maiden win in her second trip to the post here with a game second stretching out to a mile last out. Barn moves her up in class today but she still merits a look with Riggs.
RACE SEVEN PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
All 7 horses look good.
RACE SEVEN BETTING ACTION
# 2 STRAMIN HEAT, # 3 DEE'S ROSE and # 5 EXCESSIVE HEAT, are the ones that are being bet. 2 and 5 are both 5-2 with the # 3 at 7-2.
*** RACE SEVEN ANALYSIS ***
ANALYSIS OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

2 STREAMIN HEAT
3yo filly won 2 of her first 3 as a 2yo in California including stakes at Del Mar before moving to the barn of Larry Rivelli. Posted her career best in her only try sprinting on turf, a 5-length win which wasn't a surprise considering her breeding. Meets other speed today but feel she is the quickest and with Baird riding giving her the nod.

3 DEE’S ROSE
Honest 4yo filly from the barn of Dale Bennett turned in a career best sprinting over this course last out, winning the Pink Ribbon by a head. She must avoid a duel with Streamin Heat today. Graham stays.

5 EXCESSIVE HEAT
Older sister of Streamin Heat is a running machine, having won 10 of 17 career starts including 6 of 10 sprinting on the turf. Was compromised after a bad stumble leaving the gate in the Pink Ribbon last out but can certainly rebound here.

7 MAGNETIC MISS
Tried the grass for the first time last out and the result was a gate to wire win in a money allowance. This field is no tougher, and another like that last one gives her a shot at the win. Enters off a bullet 3F breeze for veteran Broussard.
RACE SIX TRIP NOTES
Favored ELEGANT KITTEN was engaged soon after the start by QUEEN MEAVE. 'MEAVE took the lead on the turn but KITTEN drove back to the top at the head of the lane. LADY REDCHECKS found room along the rail and looked like the winner when she hit the front 70 yards out. However FAITH OF ANGELS roared by with a late move from far back to get the money.
.
*** MID DAY BIAS UPDATE THROUGH 5 RACES ***
The polytrack has been fair while the turf course favors horses racing wide and from off the pace.
MORE BETTING ACTION
# 2 ELEGANT KITTEN and # 4 FAITH OF ANGELS are the clear cut favorites at 3-2 and 5-2. Rest of the field's odds are well spread out.
RACE SIX PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
All 7 horses look good.
RACE FIVE TRIP NOTES
ZION lost his best chance when he stumbled slightly at the start. CIELO CLASSIC and BIG BOY CHARLIE set a decent pace followed by MY MAN MORAN and MARQUEE EVENT. EMPTY HANDED, who was far back early, looped the field widest of all on the stretch turn, rolled right past the leaders and drew well clear. BADGER BO closed well and took a narrow decision for the place.
RACE SIX BETTING ON THE OPEN
# 2 ELEGANT KITTEN is the clear 8-5 choice on the open for the red hot Dale Bennett. Certainlly dangerous as the main speed. Figures to go off no higher than 2-1.
*** RACE SIX ANALYSIS ***
*** RACE SIX BEGINS THE LATE PICK 4 ***

ANALYSIS OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

1 TRIGGER FISH LANE
After winning three straight over this strip against similar company this 7yo mare has failed to fire in her last two as the heavy favorite. Appears ready for a rest but can still grab a share.

2 ELEGANT KITTEN
Mare likes this racing surface, hitting the board in 5 of 6 which includes 3 wins. She tired after setting a quick pace going a mile last out but still held on well for 3rd. Look for a repeat of her race two starts back around two turns going gate to wire today with Perez up.

4 FAITH OF ANGELS
Mare ran out of ground closing six wide here last out going a flat mile, but having won her previous start around two turns and the added sixteenth today she is a major contender with Campbell back up.
RACE FIVE PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
All 11 horses look good.
RACE FOUR TRIP NOTES
Favorite UNEXPECTED VALOR was declared a non-starter after he was being held by an assistant starter at the break. MAGNILOQUENT was also off very slowly. MICHAEL'S DREAMIN' set the pace closely pressed by CARSON'S HAWK. 'HAWK got a head in front at the quarter pole and held it to edge a very game MICHAEL'S DREAMIN'. SIG AND ZIG finished a close 3rd and was going strongly at the wire.
RACE FIVE BETTING ACTION ON THE OPEN
Wide open board, with the # 1 and # 3 at vying for favoritism at 3-1 and 7-2. The rest are well spread out in price.
*** RACE FIVE ANALYSIS ***
ANALYSIS OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

1 EMPTY HANDED
Although he found his best stride too late last out, that 2nd place finish was still a career best effort in his first try on the turf. Sharp works since and, with another step forward today, he can prove to be a major contender.

3 ZION
3yo Thunder Gulch colt won his career debut as a 2yo last summer at Churchill for trainer Steve Asmussen facing a strong MSW field. He then turned in a good effort in the G3 Arlington-Washington Futurity here, beaten less then two lengths despite a troubled trip. Barn thought enough of this colt to try G1 company at Keeneland next out and, although he failed to prove a factor, he did come back to finish 4th in G2 Kentucky Jockey Club back on the dirt at Churchill in the fall before getting a break. He appears to be primed for a top effort today making his third start back from the layoff moving to the turf in a good spot. He reunites with Baird who rode this colt here last year in the Futurity.

9 CAPT OBVIOUS
Honest colt has yet to run a bad race for Katherine Ball and is coming off a game maiden win here last out in his first try on the grass. Razo stays and another good effort is expected today.

10 DOCTOR BRASCH
Improving 3yo from the barn of Donnie Von Hemel has been at his best while racing on the grass, having never been out of the money in five tries. Merits respect today off his last two over this course.

11 BADGER BO
Freshened by Tom Amoss after running into buzzsaws in his last two starts. The hood goes on this time and the gelding has been working steadily over the Polytrack. Amoss wins 40% of the time when adding blinkers following a short break.
NON STARTER
The favorite # 6 UNEXPECTED VALOR was declared a non runner after being handled in the gate at the start. Refunds on all wagers using the # 6
RACE FOUR PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
# 1 CARSON'S HAWK gets front bandages removed. # 4 MICHAEL'S DREAMIN' returns off a layoff with front bandages back on.
RACE THREE TRIP NOTES
STORM OF HONOR, the speed of the field, was hustled into the lead by Eddie Razo who got him to the rail immediately. Although allowed to set soft fractions he disappeared when the stalkers turned up the heat. FREE FIGHTER raced well off the pace to the stretch then rallied strongly on the far outside to take a narrow decision. PRINCEVILLE CONDO stalked the early pace, found room to rally along the rail, got a short lead in the closing strides but was nailed on the money. GRIZZLED ROBERT and DENIM were both in contention all the way and finished fast to share in the purse. TIGHT GRIP was in very tight quarters on the inside in the lane.
MORE BETTING ACTION
# 4 takes a nice punch in the win pools with 12 minutes to go. Went from 9-5 to 7-5 in one punch.
RACE FOUR NEW GELDING
# 6, UNEXPECTED VALOR returns off a 6 1/2 week layoff as a FIRST TIME GELDING.
RACE FOUR BETTING ACTION
Interesting to note that # 4 MICHAEL'S DREAMING, 9-2 on the morning line, opened up the 8-5 favorite, but is double the price in the doubles to the 2-1 morning line favorite # 6 UNEXPECTED VALOR, who opened up at 3-1 is the big favorite in all exotic pools.
*** RACE FOUR ANALYSIS ***
ANALYSES OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

3 HOUSE OF WORDS
Tired going a mile on course listed as good here last out facing much better company. Drops into his softest spot of the year turning back to a sprint on the main track and gets the nod for the win with Thornton up.

4 MICHAEL’S DREAMIN’
4yo returns from a layoff making first start of 2009 for Michael Reavis and, not only has he proven more than capable when
fresh, but he has been sizzling here in the morning. Fits well and merits much respect.

6 UNEXPECTED VALOR
3yo colt won 2 of his first 3 career starts for trainer Michael Stidham which includes a big score over this strip in May. Failed to fire here last out but has been freshened and is certainly capable here.
BETTING ACTION
# 1 GRIZZLED ROBERT has settled into the 7-2 favorite. The board could not be any more wide open.
RACE THREE PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS AND NEW GELDING
All 12 horses look. # 7 DAKOTA GYPSY is a NEW GELDING
RACE TWO TRIP NOTES
JUMPIN JACK CAT looked like a different colt with Lasix. He broke cleanly, opened a clear lead in the opening quarter and was never challenged. He won by daylight despite being hand ridden and not changing leads. TACTICIAN made a late move along the rail to edge DADDY FORTY NINE for the place. First time starter IT'S MAGIC stumbled at the start then made a right turn and was virtually eased.
RACE THREE BETTING ACTION
As wide open a board as you will see. # 2 TIGHT GRIP is the luke warm favorite at 9-2. Rest of the field spread out between 5-1 and 30-1. Obviously the board tells you how competitive a race this is.
*** RACE THREE ANALYSIS ***
ANALYSES OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

2 TIGHT GRIP (post 2)
5yo Distorted Humor horse has been quite productive, having finished in the money in 9 of his 11 trips to the post. He found the winner's circle 3 times and has proven capable on all surfaces, but he has never been worse than second while racing on the turf. Scored his maiden win as a 3yo in his third career start on the lawn at Saratoga while facing a strong MSW field and was improving before going on the shelf for a year and making only one start in 2008. He has run well since his return this year, scoring back to back wins this summer at Belmont and Monmouth before a private purchase by owner-trainer Louis Roussel. He was back on the turf here last out for the new barn, turning in a strong effort at a mile. He broke from post 12 then closed fast to finish second beaten only a length over a course listed as good. Gets the job done this time around going two turns breaking from the rail with Karlsson aboard.

4 PRINCEVILLE CONDO (post 3)
4yo has done little wrong for trainer Michele Boyce, having yet to finish out of the money in five career starts all at a distance on the grass here while posting 3 wins. Moves from restricted to open company today but still must respect.

7 DAKOTA GYPSY (post 6)
Came up a nose short in his first start of the year then dusted a 1st tier allowance field at Lone Star. In his 1st try over this course he was beaten just 2 lengths in the G2 American Derby. This drop back into the allowance ranks makes him a strong contender at what should be generous odds.

1 GRIZZLED ROBERT (post 8)
Consistent 3yo has been extremely consistent for Hugh Robertson, hitting the board in all six starts while posting two wins including a 2 length score in first try on the turf here last out. Major contender today with Graham staying.

10 FREE FIGHTER
Returned from a break to miss by a neck in the Black Tie Affair stake here which came off the grass then came right back with a game effort on the turf last out. Certainly capable today with Perez.
MORE BETTING ACTION
# 1 continues to be the favorite at 8-5 with 6 minutes to go. Also the favorite in all exotic pools.
RACE TWO PADDOCK OBSERVATIONS
START OF THE EARLY PICK 4

# 7 YOUR IN FOR HALF returns as a NEW GELDING, an angle I like. 1st timer # 4 DADDY'S FORTY NINE will race with lasix.
RACE TWO BETTING ACTION
# 1 JUMPING JACK CAT opened up the clear cut 6-5 favorite. # 5 AFRIENDFORLUCY is the clear 2nd choice at 3-1. The rest of the field are well spread out in odds.
RACE ONE TRIP NOTES
Heavily favored CORRUPT reached the front after a quarter, drew clear after a half then was unable to finish with PAISANO CREEK and TONY TERRIFIC. PAISANO CREEK got the lead in mid-stretch and held off the late run of TONY TERRIFIC but was DQ'd for floating TONY out badly in the final strides. QUITE ACCEPTABLE was in contention on the far turn then dropped back after being forced to check hard when GENERAL DARBY came into his path.
5 PUT UP FOR THE WIN
STEWARDS INQUIRY
# 5 against # 3 (top 2 finishers) for alleged interferance deep str)
*** RACE TWO ANALYSIS ***
ANALYSES OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

5 Afriendforlucy
2yo colt has improved with each of his first three trips to the post for Bernie Flint. Good 3rd in his local debut last out for the same tag. Merits much respect today with the added furlong a plus.

6 It’s Magic
David Copperfield colt debuts for trainer Brian Williamson who can have his 2yos prepared to fire at first asking. Steady work tab here in the morning and can grab a share with Wade up.

7 Your In For Half
Snuck In colt turned in a solid debut here last out at this same class level for trainer Larry Rivelli. He pressed the pace and held on to beat over half the field. Choice to score this time around for a barn that hits nearly 40% second out.

PADDOCK NOTES RACE ONE
# 2 CREEKMORE gets front bandages back on. Did win with them the only time he wore them in the slop.# 4 QUITE ACCEPTABLE takes the fronts off.
RACE ONE BETTING
The 3 horses I have listed in my analysis, are clearly the ones being bet. All 3 are very close in all pools. The other 3 are all dead on the board. Very difficult to seperate the betting favorites.
*** RACE ONE ANALYSIS ***
ANALYSES OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.

3 PAISANO CREEK
4yo has won 2 of 4 over the Arlington turf course this year since moving to the barn of Wayne Catalano, including two starts back for today's same tag. Strong contender once again today with Smith aboard.

5 TONY TERRIFIC
Although this 5yo has yet to win this year he has been consistent for Gulick, hitting the board in 5 of 7. Beaten a length going two turns on the lawn here last out for the same tag and can't overlook with Graham.

6 CORRUPT
Has made all 15 career starts on the turf, hitting the board in 8 including 3 wins all while facing stronger company. He takes a significant class drop today in his second try since coming under the care of Chris Block. Bullet 5f drill on 8-8 and is the pick to score.
