FINAL TRACK BIAS AND HORSES TO WATCH
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
TRACK BIAS
The Polytrack favored stalkers and closers. The turf course was fair.
HORSES TO WATCH
6th race VILLAGE STREET
Made her debut for a barn that almost never wins with first timers. After being reluctant to load she broke slowly and was sent up very wide on the first turn. She was also wide on the stretch turn and was going well at the wire. Should improve a ton with this one behind her.

RACE TEN TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
ROYALLY OUTFOXED, TWO NINETY FIVE and STRUT 'N STROLL set a fast and contested pace. TWO NINETY FIVE emerged with a clear lead but was gunned down at the wire by COSMIC KING who burst out of the pack in the drive. PLAYON PLAYER broke slowly and looked dull.

#5 STRUT 'N STROLL will debut as a gelding. First timer #7 MUCICSTREET MENACE looked great. Others looked good.
RACE TEN BETTING
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
With 10 minutes to post this is the most wide open race of the day. #4 PIANO MAGIC is a lukewarm 9-2 choice.
RACE NINE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
IRON VOW was very reluctant to load, but broke sharply to engage PIRATES VOW for the lead. IRON VOW got the advantage iat the top of the stretch and was game to hold off EXECUTIVE COACH. 'COACH rated near the back of the pack, found room between horses in the drive and made a belated run that missed narrowly. WAKEUPBRANDON stalked in 4th and finished well for the show.
RACE TEN ANALYSIS

ANALYSES OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.
RACE 10
1 SUDDENLY PERFECT
3yo Pleasant Tap gelding wasn't a factor making his career debut two back over a sloppy track at Churchill for trainer Ian Wilkes but that wasn't a surprise considering this barn never cranks them up at first asking. He did turn in a much improved effort second time around sprinting on the turf at Ellis last out while adding first time Lasix. He was beaten 2 1/4 lengths and has posted three works since then. We can expect to see a top performance today with the barn keeping him on the grass while stretching out to a mile which is a huge plus for this one considering his breeding. Another extremely positive sign he is well meant today will be the rider switch from a 10 lb bug to Graham.
2 PLAYON PLAYER
Showed little in his debut at the beginning of 2009, a race that came off the grass. He returns to action today making his first start for Wayne Catalano and is well spotted at a mile on the turf dropping in for a tag.
4 PIANO MAGIC
3yo colt turned in his best effort yet here last out dropping to this same tag while moving to the grass. He finished a good third and is more than capable of taking another step forward today. Riggs is back up.
10 WISTFUL SMILE
Colt found his best stride too late debuting in a turf sprint when he broke last in the 12 horse field after drawing the rail. Can't overlook him today with the added ground and a better draw.

#2 EAGLE HAWK is adding front wraps and does not look good. Returning vacationer #7 BELELIU looked sharp. The others looked good.
RACE NINE BETTING
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
This is another contentious race with 5 of the 8 runners between 3-1 and 8-1. There is no significant betting action.
RACE 8 TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
Favorite PAPA was severely shut off on the rail soon after the start and was never a factor. ZOELING dueled with GO BUCKY GO for the lead with DON LOBIZON stalking in 3rd. 'LOBIZON moved outside the leaders to challenge in mid-stretch but ZOELING was game and held him off. SEAVIEW closed strongly from far back to get 3rd.

RACE 9
3 WAKEUPBRANDON
3yo has been a consistent performer over this strip for Roger Brueggemann, hitting the board in 4 of last 5 while improving each race. Karlsson is back up and certainly can prove a contender.
5 PIRATES VOW
Comes off the grass making only his third start of the year for trainer Anthony Granitz and looking for a winning effort dropping from open to state-bred allowance company with Bridgmohan back aboard.
6 EXECUTIVE COACH
Ran well to finish in the money in his last three here at this class level since scoring a game maiden win. The turn back to 6F is a plus today and this 3yo is likely the main threat with Sanchez up.

RACE EIGHT BETTING
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
With 14 minutes to post #1 PAPA, as expected, is the favorite. There has been good support for the 2nd choice, #7 GO BUCKY GO, who is 5-2, half of his 5-1 line odds.
RACE 7 TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
RIVERSIDE RASCAL, RABBONI and JOY FROM PHOENIX were done in by a destructive pace. BEAUFORT rated in 6th, got the lead in deep stretch and held off the other closers. ROARING SCOUT made a strong late move for 2nd. There was a dead heat for 3rd between HONEYMOON HOUSE and MOLANDER but the latter was DQ'd for stretch interference.

RACE 8
1 PAPA
Beat a good group sprinting on the turf at Fair Grounds this winter and was returned to the turf here last out for his first try off the claim by Lisa Merritt. Was only beaten a neck and with a slight drop today must respect.
7 GO BUCKY GO
6yo has been popular at the claim box which isn't a surprise considering he has won his last five starts. Moves up in class in his second start for Mullins and tries the turf for only the 3rd time.
8 ZOELING
Just wired a starters allowance field of about this class over this course. He faces more speed here but will be hard to run down with a heads up ride from Geroux.

RACE SIX TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
First timer DUNDALK DUST from the Chris Block barn raced in mid-pack to the turn, came widest of all to engage SING SING CINDRELA and won decisively. 'CINDRELA set a decent pace, turned back a bid from BLESS YOU CHILD at the top of the lane and held on tenaciously for 2nd. HARPOON HATTIE was stuck in heavy traffic in the drive. VILLAGE STREET broke a step slow then made a very wide run on the first turn before fading.
RACE SEVEN ANALYSIS

RACE 7
5 RIVERSIDE RASCAL
5yo returned from a layoff dropping to this class level for the first time this year and scored game win here last out despite a troubled trip. With his confidence high he can repeat turning back to a mile with Meier staying.
7 BEAUFORT
6yo closed fast in a sprint to miss by just two lengths in his first start since October. He did not look as sharp last time but can move forward in his 3rd start off the long layoff.
8 ROARING SCOUT
Toss the turf try last out and this 3yo has been consistent enough over the main strip here to be considered a strong contender today. He is dropping to a career low with Karlsson in the irons.
9 MOLANDER
Posted a career best going a mile over this surface two starts back finishing a game second beaten only a half-length. He merits much respect today dropping in half the claiming price with Sanchez back up.

Both the polytrack and turf have been fair through the first 5 races.
RACE FIVE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
CALLMESOMETHIN cut out a blazing pace closely pursued by WHATAFAMILYJEM. RAVE AND RICHES stalked in 3rd. EVE'S APPLE was in 9th early, moved up on the turn, found room to rally on the inside and burst away in the final stages. LA MANDY was along late to edge 'RICHES for 2nd. The winner was taking advantage of the hot fractions.

RACE 6
2 TURDUCKEN
2yo filly was asked to go a mile making her career debut here last out for Michael Reavis and, although didn't prove a factor, you can expect a much better effort this time around moving to the turf with Thornton up now.
5 TALKING AUDREY
Thunder Gulch filly has been well prepared for her debut by Chris Block. Her most recent drill was a very sharp 5F breeze from the gate. Block is among the best with first timers going long on the turf. Main man Eddie Perez up.
8 HARPOON HATTIE
Well bred Tiznow filly lost all chance in her debut here last out for trainer Steve Asmussen after a bad stumble at the break. She has posted 3 strong 5F works since and is the choice to score second out. She moves to the turf with an additional furlong while adding first time Lasix. Switch to Graham a plus.
9 UP IN LIGHTS
A slow start and wide trip didn't help this Smart Strike filly in her debut this spring facing a tough MSW field at Keeneland. She is eligible to move forward stretching out on the grass this time around.
11 VILLAGE STREET
Street Cry filly debuts in a turf route for trainer Greg Geier and appears well prepared with a steady work tab. She can pick up share with Sanchez riding.

RACE 5
2 DIVINE WISH Arkie-bred has been overmatched in all 6 starts since she beat a field of state-bred maidens at Oaklawn. This drop to the basement is long overdue. She has the figures to compete here.
3 OPTIMISTIC SREVA
Showed speed breaking from the rail last out while making her first start since last fall, also her first for trainer Frank Kirby. Expect a much better finish today with a race under her belt with her claiming price cut in half.
4 JUST AMORE
Hit the board in 2 of her last 3 since returning from a year’s absence for trainer Bernie Flint. Her only race over this strip was a 3rd place finish in her second back from the layoff for double this claiming tag. Can prove a contender now with Graham a plus.
7 RAVE AND RICHES
3yo filly has hit the board in 4 of 5 trips to post and has yet to finish worse than second since adding blinkers. She scored a 6 1/2 length maiden win here last out and is well spotted to repeat today with Geroux back aboard.

RACE THREE TRIP NOTES
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
When BIG BOLD PLACE was allowed to set fractions of :26 and :51 4/5 on an easy lead the others were in deep trouble. With SMARTY MOUTH as his closest pursuer 'PLACE cruised home and drew well clear in the lane. LITTLEBUTLIVELY and SEFA SPLIT picked up the pieces for the minor placings.

4 LIVE FROM APOLLO
Honest 5yo has proven to be capable on all surfaces for trainer Steve Hobby as his 3 wins this year have come on dirt, turf, and the synthetic surface here last out but all have been sprinting. He returns at the same tag today but on the turf. Can repeat with Jara.
7 ROCKHURST
10yo is still a contender having won four straight at Fair Grounds this winter all sprinting on the turf. After facing better in his last four he will benefit from the drop back down in class.

RACE TWO TRIP NOTES

SON OF TIGER took the lead from the rail, closely pursued by SNAKE RIVER CANYON and TILLMAN HALL. SNAKE RIVER CANYON drove into a clear lead in mid-stretch but was caught by longshot TILLMAN HALL right on the wire. HEZA FLAMER closed from far back and edged 'CANYON for 2nd. A claim of foul against the winner by the rider of HEZA FLAMER was not allowed.
RACE THREE ANALYSIS

ANALYSES OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.
RACE 3
1 JUDITH’S LAKE
Returns to the main track, won for double today's tag three races back and the distance of this race is much more suitable. Good to see Graham back in the irons and with the drop in class he certainly must be considered.
3 SMARTY MOUTH
That was a solid effort from this 5yo coming off the break facing allowance company last out and he must be considered a contender this time around. Dropping back in for same tag where he posted a 3 1/2 length win before the rest.
8 BIG BOLD PLACE
7yo has won 2 of his last 3 starts on the main strip here since being claimed by trainer Larry Rivelli. Is the choice to pick up another score today dropping back in for a tag while reuniting with Thornton.

SEE THE FUTURE and A RENOIR both broke quickly and dueled for command to the stretch turn. SEE THE FUTURE got the best of her rival to open a clear lead, but OPEN AND CLOSED, who had been stalking 4-wide in the second flight, looped the leaders on the turn and was drawing clear at the wire.

RACE 2
3 DJEDDAH
4yo returns from a lay-up for trainer Anthony Granitz while moving back to the turf which has been the surface he has been most effective on. Bullet drill here on 8-1 and can prove a factor with Alvarado up.
5 SNAKE RIVER CANYON
Turned in an improved effort last out, not only making his first start of the year but first since coming under the care of Wayne Catalano. Back under the same conditions today and with a race under him now gets the nod with Campbell up.
6 SILVER EMBER
3yo hasn't been as effective on the main strip here in last two trips to post but is eligible to improve today back on the turf with Perez staying.

by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
#5 APRIL NIGHT is receiving heavy early betting action. She is holding at 5-2 from a morning line price of 10-1. Adding blinkers and should be very live.
RACE ONE ANALYSIS
by The Wizard on Saturday, August 22, 2009
ANALYSES OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.
RACE 1
1 SEE THE FUTURE
Overmatched in her first three starts then finished a decent 2nd when dropped to the basement last time. That was her first start for Catalano and this class jump is a high % maneuver for the Cat Man. Likely to be over bet because of the connections.
2 A RENOIR
3yo filly has been consistent, hitting the board in 6 of 7 trips to post including the last two over the main strip here at today's same tag. Like to see her reunited with Emigh and can prove a major contender.
3 FRIENDLY PACE
Is well spotted for her career debut today and trainer Brian Williamson does a good job with his horses debuting for a tag. Steady work tab shows some ability and certainly can't ignore with Wade up.
5 APRIL NIGHT
Following her career debut in late June this 4yo Irgun filly was moved to the barn of trainer Terry Gestes. Was well backed making her first try for new connections but stumbled at the break unseating the rider. Considering that her work tab leading up to her debut consisted of strong drills on the synthetic surface at PID, I was looking for a good effort moving to Arlington last out receiving Lasix. Did show some run, breaking from the 11 hole facing a much better group than she meets today. This is her first start in maiden claiming for a barn that hits 35% with horses dropping from MSW company and another added bonus is the addition of blinkers which is a 40% winning move for Gestes. Presence of Graham now is only positive and filly is the choice to graduate this time around.
