TRACK BIAS
The polytrack favored mid-pack stalkers. The turf course was fair.
HORSES TO WATCH
4th OKEFENOKEE stalked the pace from the inside, went for a hole at the top of the stretch but had it close on her. James Graham then took her up, swung to the outside and closed with a powerful rush to win going away. Dale Bennett has this one in the best form of her career.
7th PETITE FUEGO, a first time starter who had been hammered in the early betting, rated in 4th, moved 4-wide on the turn and closed with a late burst to get the win. Will be hard to beat in a 1st tier allowance next time.
10th QUEEN OF VICTORY may have been best. After breaking from the extreme outside was wide all the way. She stalked all the way, took a late lead but could not contain the winner. Like to see her drawn inside against the same kind next time. Another solid turf ride by Karlsson.

TRIP NOTES RACE TWELVE
by The Wizard on Saturday, September 12, 2009
#6 MESMERITE at 45-1 rated in 4th, moved strongly through the middle of the field and was drawing off at the wire. #12 WEDGEWOOD was very reluctant to load, stalked in 3rd, did not respond when put to a drive at the top of the stretch, then re-rallied to finish 2nd. #9 EXECUTIVE COACH was in mid-pack early, launched his bid between horses then was impeded by the winner. A rider's claim of foul against the winner was not allowed with the stewards ruling that the interference was caused my multiple horses.

#2 SHAQUITA, a 50-1 longshot, set all of the pace, held the lead to the final strides and finished a close 3rd. #8 ANSONG raten well back in the pack, began to move up between horses on the turn then charged right through the middle of the field to win going away. #12 QUEEN OF VICTORY may have been best. After breaking from the extreme outside she stalked all the way and held a late lead but could not contain the winner. Like to see her drawn inside against the same kind next time. Another solid turf ride by Karlsson.

ANALYSES OF THESE HORSES ARE PLACED IN POST POSITION ORDER. THESE ARE NOT MY SELECTIONS.
RACE 11
5 SHARP TRICK
Has shown much improvement since adding Lasix four back and scored a game maiden win here last out. He is more than capable of picking up a share today with Alvarado staying.
7 WAKEUPBRANDON
Gelding has been a consistent performer here at Arlington, finishing in the money 5 of his last 6 trips to the post. Posted a career best at today's distance two back and with addition of blinkers now gets the nod.
8 PIRATES VOW
3yo came off the turf to turn in a good effort on the main track here last out. With better rating today by new rider Graham he can certainly prove a contender.
9 EXECUTIVE COACH
Has only finished worse than second once while racing under today's same conditions here for trainer James DiVito. Closed fast to miss by a head last out and is a major player once again with Sanchez.
12 WEDGEWOOD
Broke his maiden sprinting in his 2nd career start then was tried in two routes by veteran trainer Hazelton. This cut back in distance makes him a solid contender despite the outside post.

#6 SOUTHERN VISION pressed the early leader, got the advantage on the turn and came within two strides of winning it. The gray #3 HOLY THURSDAY was at the back of the pack early, circled the field on the turn an won a head-bobbing decision. #1 ROCHESTER CAT stalked in 4th, was blocked at the top of the stretch but got through along the rail and missed by a short nose.

RACE 10
3 PTERODACTYLS RULE
3yo filly turned in a good effort on the lawn here last out racing at today's same class level to finish second and is more than capable of picking up another share here with Graham up.
5 PERI
Filly hasn't won this year for Tom Proctor but has hit the board in 5 of 6 including her last four here at Arlington. Good second three back at today's same conditions and merits respect with Alavardo staying.
7 ASKBUT I WON’TTELL
Beat a strong MSW field going around two turns on the turf at Gulfstream in January in only her second career start. Was moved to the barn of Chris Block afterwards and returns to action today. Works say she is ready making her the choice with Perez.
11 P. S. I LOVE YOU
Is also trained by Chris Block and has yet to finish worse than second while scoring a 4 1/4 length maiden win around two turns on the turf here. Mile distance suits her well and must be considered.

#6 STRADIVINSKY shot right to the front and set a solid pace. When he entered the stretch two on top with Karlsson sitting chilly the others were in big trouble. RACE 9
2 CITY NUMBER
6yo has finished first or second in all four starts sprinting on the main track here this summer for Hugh Robertson. Gets the nod to find the winner's circle today dropping in class while reuniting with Geroux.
3 HOLY THURSDAY
Popular claim now goes from Bennett to Brueggemann. Up a notch in class following a game win from off the pace. Barn is winning at just an 8% clip for the year but has positive stats with last out claims.
8 LIFE’S LESSONS
Honest gelding has finished game seconds in his last two starts here racing under today's same conditions for trainer Frank Kirby. Karlsson is back in the irons and he is more than capable of proving a factor.
9 LIVE FROM APPOLLO
5yo just missed sprinting on the turf here last out for this same claiming tag. He won his previous start, also at today's tag, but on the main track. Like to see Castanon take the call and must be considered a contender.

The Irish-bred #3 MAREE BASSE opened a clear lead on the first turn and held it to the top of the stretch when she dropped out. #1 CREATIVE DESIGN raced in 4th early, got through along the rail and outfinished #4 FLAMING SLEW. 'SLEW rated just behind the leaders, moved to the lead in deep stretch from the outside but could not contain the winner. #2 DA MAMA broke down with a furlong to go.

RACE 7
2 PLEASANT GUEST
Pleasant Tap filly turned in a good effort in her debut at Canterbury last out, finishing second. She has since moved to Hugh Robertson's barn and, considering the way she has been training, merits respect with Geroux up.
6 AUTUMN EYES
2yo Stormy Atlantic filly drew the one post making her career debut over a sloppy track at Churchill against a strong MSW field. She lost all chance when she broke last in the 12 horse group but still showed good speed, beating over half the field. I’m looking for a much improved performance this time around for trainer Eddie Kenneally drawing a much better post while facing a softer group. Barn has her primed for a top effort coming into this race off back to back bullets this month. She is the choice to graduate with Razo riding.
8 PETITE FUEGO
Smoke Glacken filly debuts for trainer Dale Bennett who does an excellent job with his 2yos, winning at a clip of over 25% first out. A bullet 5F from the gate here on 9-6 suggests that she is a contender today.

The well bet #5 IM A CLASSY CAT opened a clear lead after a quarter and looked strong entering the final furlong. She began to tire while swishing her tail and barely held on for 2nd. My Crystal Ball selection, first time starter #3 HOLIDAY IN DIXIE, stalked the pace in 3rd then ran past the tiring 'CAT to win sharply at odds of 5-1. #6 PICK AND PRAY raced closest to the early leader then just missed in the photo for place.

RACE 6
2 DA MAMA
3yo Johar filly has done little wrong so far for trainer Tom Amoss having won three of her first four career starts. She began with a 5 1/2 length debut win sprinting over the main track here at 8-1 and I'm sure there is one or more trainers out there that wish they had put a claim slip in for the $25,000 tag for which she was offered. Amoss moved to allowance company next out and the 4th place going 7F was the result of a poorly judged ride from Razo. She certainly rebounded well moving to the turf and scoring back to back wins with ease returning to the stalking position. Feel she will only take another step forward today staying on the grass while stretching out to a flat mile with Razo back aboard.
4 FLAMING SLEW
Filly was compromised by a poor trip over soft turf at Ellis last out in an $85K stakes. She hit the board in 6 of 8 turfers and 3 of 4 at today's mile distance. That makes her a contender today.
6 CIAO
Honest mare was sent off as the favorite here two starts back when dropping to this level on the lawn after keeping stakes company since last summer. She missed by a neck and followed with another close second last out. She is still a major player here with Graham.

#4 FROSTY MELODY set the pace closely pursued by the pack. Three lengths covered the field after a half. #1 OKEFENOKEE stalked the pace from the inside, went for a hole at the top of the stretch but had it close on her. James Graham then took her up, swung to the outside and closed with a powerful rush to win going away. Dale Bennett has this one in the best form of her career. #6 AY YOU'RE ADORABLE was wide every step of the way. She looked like she might win it until the winner got loose.

RACE 5
2 IDEALHOUSE
Limehouse filly ran into a buzzsaw in her debut and also bled. Asmussen adds Lasix this time, so look for vast improvement. Four stiff drills since her race will further her conditioning. Hot rider E T Baird replaces Bridgmohan.
3 HOLIDAY IN DIXIE
2yo Harlan's Holiday filly makes her career debut today for trainer Percy Scherbenske who not only has had a good Arlington meet but has also done a good job having his first time starters well prepared, winning at a 20% clip. Filly was a May foal and I like the fact the connections have given her some extra time to mature instead of starting her earlier this summer which also suggests they feel she was worth the wait. Has shown ability over this racing surface in the morning and like to see the barn bring her back for the easy 6F work on 9-2 after the sharp 5F drill on 8-24. Appears more than ready to go and the presence of Alvarado here is only a positive sign.
5 IM A CLASSY CAT
Well bred filly from the barn of Bret Calhoun has been compromised by troubled starts in her last two trips to post here. The barn makes a rider change to Sterling today and certainly can't overlook.

#3 TWO NINETY FIVE set a decent and pressured pace. He was pressed by #5 CLASSIC RECITAL who went very wide on the first turn. 'FIVE opened a clear lead and was able to hold off the fast closing #1 WISTFUL SMILE. The latter stalked the pace then was gaining on the outside and would have been closer if not interfered with late. The winner drifted out into 'SMILE's path but a trainer claim of foul was not allowed. 'RECITAL held on well for 3rd, a sharp effort considering how wide she went on the clubhouse turn.

2 GO NATIVE
Mare returned from 9 month layoff in May making her first start since coming under the care of Moises Yanez. She has run well in all six trips to post here on both the turf and main strip. She just beat better at a mile here last month and is the pick today with Alvarado back.
3 HOLY GERI
4yo has shown huge improvement since being claimed by Catalano here in June, posting a second and back to back wins. Merits respect turning back to a mile today but does face a better group.

4 MACKINNON PASS
That was a strong effort from this gelding last out when asked to go 1 1/8 miles on the turf in his career debut for Richard Scherer. He broke last in the 11 horse field but still finished 3rd and can only improve with a race under him.
6 POLISHED
Well bred 3yo makes his 12th trip to post today for Carl Nafzger but has turned in good efforts with much stronger company including a 5 length win two back only to be DQ'd. Previous tries on the grass and the class relief today make him the choice with Graham a plus.
